Litchfiled National Park
New photos of Ben and Litchfield National Park have been loaded on www.geographyrulz.com. These show our latest trip/s to the park in Septemebr and October of 2005. I was hoping that the wet season would arrive early but as in other parts of the world this year it didn't. Hopefully we will be back there in January when the rains should be pelting down. One of the highlights of the trip was joining the rangers to set the crocodile traps. These are set soon after the rains begin. Freshwater crocodiles are not unusual in the creeks and waterholes. When the rivers really start to rise the saltwater crocodiles move into areas where the public is allowed. These are trapped and removed. Eventually the swimmimng holes are closed for the wet season beacuse of the danger from saltwater crocodiles and drowing in the strong currents. While three freshwater crocodiles were captured while we were there, we did not see any being released. Thanks to past Deception Bay High student and Park Ranger, Laura Dakuna, for her hospitality during our stay in the Park.
